In 2003, an outbreak among Asian countries was reported. 150 million birds either died or were killed all across the continent - in Thailand, Laos, Cambodia, China, Vietnam, Japan and Korea.

From 2003 to 2007, the World Health Organization (WHO) recorded 335 laboratory-confirmed human cases of H5N1 infections. Of these, 206 died.

The latest H5N1 bird flu case was reported from Indonesia, where a 31-year old male died in November 6, 2007. To date, Indonesia holds the highest mortality rate for bird flu. Of the 113 confirmed cases in the country, 91 were fatal.
